BOYD, Dr. Martin Samuel
March 24, 1923 – March 18, 2017
Dr. Martin Samuel Boyd of Red Deer, passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at the age of 93 years. Martin was born at Torphichen, Scotland to David and Jane Stevenson (nee Pate). He graduated from Stirling High School, Scotland in 1940 and went on to the University of St. Andrews, Scotland; where he graduated in 1947 with his M.B., Ch.B. in Medicine. He was called to the Royal Army Medical Corps. in 1948, and stationed at Edinburgh Castle and Fort George, until 1950, when he returned to his medical practice in Dundee, Scotland. Martin was married to Irene Mabel Duncan on August 1, 1951 at Ryehill Church, Dundee, Scotland. In 1966, Martin, Irene and family emigrated from Scotland to Swift Current, Saskatchewan; where he joined the Swift Current Medical Clinic and continued medical practice. In 1968, the family moved to Regina, Saskatchewan; where he joined the Medical Care Insurance Commission. Martin went on to become Medical Director of Medicare in Saskatchewan. In 1980, Martin and Irene moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba; where Martin joined the Department of Veterans Affairs, in the role of Regional Medical Officer, with the Federal Government, until he retired in 1988. Martin was an avid fisherman, who loved fly fishing in Scotland and tied his own flies. He also loved golfing and amateur radio. Later in life, Martin decided to obtain his pilot’s license and was successful at the age of 65. Martin will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Irene; daughter, Elaine Kachor and her husband, Robert; son, Graeme and his wife, Kathy; his grandchildren, Kevin Minaker and wife, Allyson, Craig Minaker and wife, Vanessa, Troy Kachor and wife, Angelin, David and wife, Carrie, Cheryl, Diana and Andrea Boyd; along with great grandchildren, Boyd, and Kaybrie Minaker and Beckham Minaker. Martin was predeceased by his father, David Boyd in 1932, when Martin was only nine years old; and his mother, Jane in 1963.
