Douglas passed away peacefully with family by his side on Sunday December 17, 2017 at Kingston Health Sciences Centre. He will be dearly missed by his spouse and best friend Tammy Kearney of Kingston and 2 children Julie Matthews (Todd) Newport, Washington and David Matthews (Michelle) of Penhold, Alberta. Doug will be remembered by his grandchildren Dylan, Mackenzie, Austin, Sydney, Benjamin, Madison and Hayden. He was the brother to Maureen Matthews (Tom) of Toronto and Dennis Matthews of Toronto. Doug will be missed by his two nieces from Toronto Morgan Davidoff (Cory) and Jordan Davidoff. Doug will be missed by his fur babies Benji and Angel. Predeceased by his parents Lorne and Vera Matthews of Gananoque.
Doug was an avid race car driver and loved anything to do with cars. He loved to start each day fresh with his coffee buddies at Tim Horton’s.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted with the James Reid Funeral Home and cremation has taken place. The Matthews Family would like to thank the staff at Kingston Health Sciences Centre for their excellent care and compassion with Doug. Thank you to Amber, Jason, Cynthia, Rachel, Barb, Morgan, Jackie and Dr. Chan of the hospital staff. A sincere gratitude to Nurse Lynn for her care at home with Doug. A special acknowledgement to CCAC for their care over the years.
In lieu of flowers, the Matthews Family would appreciate donations to the Humane Society of Kingston.
