Douglas Robertson – 2017

Douglas William Robertson
May 10, 1932 – April 9, 2017
It is with great sadness and happy memories that the family announces the peaceful passing of Doug at the St. Boniface Hospital on Sunday, April 9, 2017 after a long brave battle with Parkinsons disease and cancer.
Doug was predeceased by his parents John and Nan (nee Ogilvie) Robertson and his brother Ralph. He leaves to mourn sisters Susanne (Sue) (Larry Greer) and Diane Fiebelkorn (the late Leonard); brother Jack (Evelyn); sister-in-law Edna and his partner Tony Cabral. He was a much loved Uncle Doug to many nieces and nephews.
Doug grew up in Selkirk where he attended school and worked in the family meat and grocery business which he eventually took over. He spent a brief time in the Air Force and worked for a few years in London, England before returning to Selkirk to join his brother Jack in the Robertson Furniture Store where he made many lifelong friends.
Doug enjoyed many happy holidays in Mexico where he loved entertaining visitors. He was a great host and was in his glory serving up brunch at his cottage or a barbecue around the pool at his home. He had a great sense of humour and was lots of fun. We celebrate his life with love and joy.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Arthur Blank who took such good care of Doug over the years and also the nursing staff at St. Boniface Hospital.
In accordance with Doug’s wishes, there will be no memorial service.
In lieu of flowers donations in Doug’s memory may be made to the Parkinsons Society of Manitoba or the charity of your choice.
Condolences may be left at www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
