Doug was born in Kitchener and passed away at his home, quietly and peacefully on February 2, 2017 at the age of 71.
Dear husband of Betty, loving father of Scott Devenny and his partner Stacey England of Fergus and Jason and his wife Kim Devenny of Kitchener. Awesome Grandpa of Macy, Cameron, Grayson, Hayden, Hudson and awesome Boppa of Owen and Ethan.
Predeceased by his parents Wally and Marion Devenny and his brother Paul and niece Julie.
Doug will be sadly missed by Fran Devenny of Waterloo, Lisa and Sav Neth of London, Jocelyn and Charlie Cole of Sarnia, Christine and Rob McCormack of Guelph, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Doug was a skilled, compassionate and committed paramedic for the region of Waterloo for more than 40 years. He was the recipient of the Governor General’s Award in 2003 (Exemplary Service Medal) for Emergency Medical Services. Upon retirement he became the bus driver for Fairview Mennonite Home and Beechwood Manor where he continued his love of conversations with others and caring for his beloved passengers. Doug’s happiest times were spent sharing adventures at the cottage with his family.
Doug’s family will receive relatives and friends from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. on Monday, February 6, 2017 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. A funeral service will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial donations to Autism Speaks- Canada or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
