Obituary for Dorothy Lillian Nesbitt (Holmes)
Dorothy Lillian Nesbitt, October 20, 1924 – December 29, 2017
Dorothy was born in Toronto, the second child of Robert Glass Holmes and Margaret (Waterson).
She was married to Lindsay Lloyd Nesbitt on October 26, 1946,
Lloyd and Dorothy were always involved in Christian ministry, at First Baptist Church in Fort Erie, in backyard Bible clubs, and Gideons International. Dorothy taught at Niagara Christian Collegiate for 17 years and is fondly remembered by many former students.
Shortly after the passing of Lloyd in 1993, Dorothy moved to Toronto and settled in Bethany Courts where she enjoyed that Christian community for twenty years. In 2015, she moved to live with Donna and Bruce in Scarborough.
Dorothy was the mother of Doralyn (Carey), Donna (Bruce), and Debra (David). She was grandmother to Daniel (Ashleigh) and Jonathan (Claire) Moore, Caleb (Sarah), Abby (Brian), and Stephen Edwards, Sean (Liz) and Ryan (Carolyn) Lavin, and Kelly (Archie) Reed. She was great grandmother to Graham and Maggie Moore, Joseph and Maryn Moore, Hannah and Peter Edwards, Noah and Finn Klejment-Lavin, and Keiran Lavin.
Dorothy is pre-deceased by her husband Lloyd, her sister Edith, and her brother Doug.
The family invites you to visit with them at Chapel Ridge Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 2, 5-9 p.m. and to join them for the celebration of Dorothy’s life on Wednesday, January 3, 2:00 p.m., also at Chapel Ridge Funeral Home.
In lieu of floral tributes, you are invited to donate to the Gideons of Canada or to the charity of your choice in memory of Dorothy.
