Obituary of Doris Witmer
Doris went to heaven on Friday, November 17, 2017 in her 98th year. Born in 1920 near Arnprior, Ontario, Doris was one of 6 children of John and Helena Jahn. She is survived by siblings Ralph in California and Dolores in Florida.
Doris was the wife of Clifford Witmer (married in 1946; Cliff died in 2010). They resided in Kitchener for the majority of their lives together, where their 4 sons were born: Dan, Jack, Ron and Paul. Cliff and Doris later resided at Trillium Village in Strathroy, and Doris at Country Terrace in Komoka.
Doris will be remembered for her faith, her hospitality, her hands-on skills, her frugality, and a phenomenal memory for details about persons in her life – family, friends, neighbours and co-workers. She found something positive in each day – a smile, a phone call, a conversation, and especially the presence of nature, in things as small as a butterfly, a toad or a flower, and as big as the sun or moon. She had a sense of humour even in the face of her own illnesses and pain. Her clear, sparkling blue eyes were a blessing to so many in her later years. She loved, and was loved.
Doris will be missed by all of us – Dan (Mary Teasdale); Jack (Janet); Ron (Joan), their children Heidi Miller (Scott) and children Henry and Charlie, Benjamin (Meghan), and Hannah; Paul (Laima), Paul’s children Michelle, Jennifer (Josh Davey), and Laima’s children Milda, Mingaile and Vytenis.
Please join us for a Celebration of Life (cremation has taken place) for Doris on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo, at 3:00 p.m., or on Sunday, November 26, 2017 at Trillium Village, 400 Dominion Street, Strathroy at 3:00 p.m. Light refreshments provided.
