Obituary for Doris Yuen
Peacefully in the West End Villa on Thursday, February 16, 2017, at the age of 94. Beloved wife of the late Searl Wing Yuen. Survived by her youngest son Derek (Faye) and step-daughter Susan (Yen). Loving Mother of her three predeceased sons; Adrian, Brian and Garry. Doris will be sadly missed by her grandchildren Adrian and Lindsay, Eric (Alice) and Bernice (Bao Tan). Survived by her youngest brother Lem. Predeceased by her siblings Eunice (Frank), Herbert, Eveline (Jack) and May. A devoted Mother, Sister, Grandmother and prominent Business woman. In 1939, Doris and her Husband Searl Wing opened the Green Dragon Chinese Gift Shop on Sparks Street Mall. She spent 75 years serving customers from Royalty to Prime Ministers, Federal and Provincial Ministers, Mayors, Celebrities, Professionals, reporters and many others visiting and residing in Ottawa. Doris treated all customers equally including the less fortunate. She loved sharing each other’s personal stories and tried to serve her customers wants and needs with dedication and compassion. She and her family members provided personalized service while managing the Green Dragon Chinese Gift Shop, Able Lock and alternative businesses. During these long years, she built many long-standing friendships with suppliers and clientele. Doris was an inspiration and icon on the Mall and was sought out and loved by many. Friends are invited to visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street (at O’Connor) on Monday, February 20, 2017 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 p.m. and on Tuesday, February 21 from 10 until the time of the Funeral Service in the Chapel at 11a.m. Reception will follow the Service. Interment in the Beechwood Cemetery. In Memoriam donations to the Canadian Cancer and Diabetic Association, in memory of her sons, would be appreciated.
