Doris E. Vokey – 2017

Doris Vokey 1920 — 2017. Doris was born on Bell Island, Jan.13, 1920. She was the daughter of Samuel and Effie (Yetman) Cobb. Her father was killed in #2 mines when Doris was eight years old. Her mother remarried William Spurrell and moved the family to Harbour Grace South. In 1940 she married Arthur Vokey of Spaniard’s Bay. She was a homemaker and devoted wife and mother. She was an avid reader and esp. loved British History. In retirement she enjoyed gardening, the senior gatherings and parties. She was a frequent traveler with her daughters, making many trips to different places in the U.S.A. She also traveled to the British Isles, the Continent of Europe and Israel and Egypt. She is predeceased by her husband 1987, son Rick 1973. Son-in-law, William Peluso, Sisters Evelyn Davis Hr. Grace, Hazel Warren St. John’s. Brothers George and Walter Spurrell Hr. Grace South. She is survived by two daughters, Jessie Peluso, Massachusetts,
Martha/Scott Charles, S. Carolina, four sons, Albert, George, Charlie/Bernadette, Spaniard’s Bay, Gary/Sheila, Carbonear. Four grandchildren:Kristie Wade, New York, Theresa Gibson, Ontario, Cory Vokey, Ontario,Jared Vokey, Alberta. Seven great grandchildren: Rachael and William Wade,New York, Nicholas Gibson, Ontario, Alex and Evan Vokey, Ontario,Oliver and Ayla Vokey, Alberta. Also, two sisters: Effie Vokey, Spaniard’s Bay,Betty Slade, Salmon Cove. A Brother Edward Spurrell, Harbour Grace South. Visiting hours at Lynch’s Funeral Home Spaniard’s Bay are, Tuesday Jan. 3, 7 – 9pm, Wednesday Jan. 4, 2 – 4, 7 – 9pm. Thursday Jan. 5, 10 – 12noon.Followed by Liturgy of Christian burial at Holy Redeemer Anglican |Church. Interment Maul Tree Hill Anglican Cemetery, In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Holy Redeemer Anglican Church .
