Obituary for Doris McKellar
McKellar, Doris Annette (née Anderson) – of Kincardine, passed away peacefully, with her beloved Bob at her side, on Thursday February 16, 2017, in her 83rd year.
Family was always at the centre of her life and she is remembered with great love by children Deborah (Gary Kenny), Joan (Albert Bertolet), Patti (Daniel McKillip), John, and Jennifer (Jeff Picard); grandchildren Andrew, Ledah, Rhonda, Darlene, Kara, Braden, Mary, and Jori; great grandchildren Kayla, Riley, and Owen.
Sadly missed by brother Guy Anderson (Gail), brother-in-law Graham MacDonald, sister-in-law Elouise Anderson, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her parents Jack and Mary Anderson, in-laws Russell and Thelma McKellar, siblings Dale Anderson and Dawn MacDonald, and grandson James Bertolet.
Doris raised her children at home for 17 years before entering the workforce at Sears Canada, HGR Carpets, and the School of Developmentally Handicapped Children at Humber College, where she was much loved by both children and staff. She was a charter member of the Westway Bridge Club in Etobicoke for over 50 years, where she enjoyed a close relationship with all the members. She was known for her welcoming and generous hospitality, and for her delicious home-cooking and baking. She was talented with her hands, and especially loved to sew and knit. Upon retirement, she and Bob enjoyed relaxing winters in Florida where they developed new friendships. Home was Inverhuron, where Doris felt blessed to be surrounded by the lake, the beach, neighbours, friends and family. We are grateful to the Rev. Rob Hiscox for his visits over the years, and for leading her funeral and celebration of life.
Visitation will be held at the Davey-Linklater Funeral Home, Kincardine, on Monday, February 20, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the Anglican Church of the Messiah on Tuesday, February 21, at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Rob Hiscox officiating.
Memorial donations to the Anglican Church of the Messiah, Kincardine Hospital Auxiliary or a charity of your choice would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
