Obituary of Donald Beaton
It is with aching hearts we say goodbye to our ‘Da’, Donald Angus Beaton, age 81, which occurred Friday, December 1, 2017 at the Glace Bay Hospital. He was the son of the late Angus Beaton and the late Catherine (MacIsaac) Beaton and was born August 15, 1936, in Inverness, NS. He was a devout Catholic and prayed daily.
He was a member of the Airway Beagle Club for many years. He and his buddy Ray MacIsaac competed in horseshoe competitions and won a great deal of them.
First and foremost he loved his family. He married Mary ‘Elaine’ Jamieson on August 8, 1959. She was the love of his life. They raised their children to ensure they grew into good adults, and they were the children of a good man.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine (Jamieson) Beaton. He is also survived by his children, Catherine (Doug MacMullin), New Glasgow, Donald (Debra) Beaton, Pleasant Valley, Deborah (Fred Walls), Miramichi, NB, Derek (Vanessa) Beaton, New Glasgow, Rhonda (David Stepaniak), Gardiner Mines; grandchildren, Patti MacMullin, Courtnay MacMullin, John Beaton, Ashley Beaton, and the apple of his eye, Tessa Stepaniak; two great grandchildren, Hayden and Everleigh MacDonald; sisters, Dorothy (Bill) Wales, Ontario, Josie (Walter) Dill, Ontario, Rhonda Moran, New Victoria; brothers, John Beaton, Strathlorne and Winston (Jean) Beaton, Deepdale, and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his best buddy, Dewey (Marie Jamieson) Smith.
He was predeceased by his parents; sister, Mary Knickle, and brothers, Billie Beaton, Jimmy Beaton and Archie Beaton.
Visitation will be held at Curry’s Funeral Home, Glace Bay on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be led by Father Norman MacPhee on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay, with interment in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Passchendaele.
