THOMPSON, Donald Lloyd
Donald Thompson passed away peacefully at the Didsbury Hospital surrounded by his family on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at the age of 86 years. He was born to Alfred and Edith Thompson on March 27, 1931 at the family farm east of Didsbury in the Lone Pine district. As a young man, he worked the farm and met and married Shirley Spraggs on October 29, 1953. In 1966, they sold the farm and Don pursued his welding career with Nodwell in Calgary. In July of 1967, they moved back to Didsbury where Don worked at the Didsbury Auction Mart and then retired from the Chinooks Edge School Division after 22 years as a custodian. Don was most in his element when surrounded by his family. He also enjoyed flying his plane and loved camping, ski-dooing and took many bus trips with Shirley travelling across Canada and the USA. He attended the shooting range in Carstairs and served on the board of the Didsbury 5-0 Club.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Shirley of 63 years; children, Kathleen (Brian) Francis, Kelvin (Wendy) Thompson and Kelly (Patty) Thompson; grandchildren, Jamie (Kristina), Lisa (Shaun), Joe (Crystal) and Jen (Bryan); great grandchildren, Sarah, Hannah, Zaylex, Kayden and Calista.
