SUTHERLAND, Donald Joseph – 83, Lockeport, formerly of Clyde River, It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our brother Donald at Surf Lodge Nursing Home on November 15, 2017, after a long and courageous battle with renal failure. Born in Clyde River, February 1, 1934, he was the fourth son of the late R. Glen Sutherland and Marion (Nickerson) Sutherland. After graduating from high school he chose to stay in Clyde River and spend his life in the family forestry business and be close to the nature that he loved. His hobbies were woodworking and bowling. His favourite ball team was the Boston Red Sox. He enjoyed watching his great nephews play sports. He received a 25 year award for his service as a Cub and Boy Scout Leader. He is survived by his brothers, Grant (Edith), Thunder Bay, ON; Robert (Barbara), Etobicoke, ON; Douglas (Rose Marie); Wayne , Dartmouth; Deward, Dale (Judy), Clyde River; sisters, Barbara Bower, Upper Ohio; Sharon (Allan) Christie, Clyde River; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by brother, Gordon, nieces, Meredith, Lynn, Ruth, Elaine, Erin; nephew, Brian; sister-in-law, Phyllis; brother-in-law, Alan. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Barrington. There will be a memorial service held at H. M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, Barrington, Wednesday, November 22, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Cindy Dunnett officiating. It has been requested there be family flowers only. Memorial donations in his name may be made to the Dialysis Unit of Yarmouth Regional Hospital or a charity of choice. There will be a graveside committal at St. Matthews United Church Cemetery at a later date.
