1945-2017
Berry, Donald Carl, 72, of Shortt’s Lake, Nova
Scotia, passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at the Colchester
East Hants Health Centre, Truro. He was born in Halifax on September
04, 1945, the youngest of six children of the late Alexander and Emma
(Roode) Berry. He was an enterprising entrepreneur who, together with
his family, founded Berry’s Furniture, building it into a
successful business and a local institution.
In addition to his parents, Don is predeceased by his two
older sisters, Helen Onda Thorpe and Emily Boyd.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Margaret
(“Peggy” Irwin) Berry; son Mark (Vanessa), and
grandchildren Alex and Caitlin of South Pasadena, California; daughter
Victoria (Theresa Frost) Berry and grandchild Angus of Toronto;
daughter Marianne (Michael) Michaud, and grandchildren Jack, Lily, and
Andrew of Valley; brothers Keith (Bessie) of Truro and Reginald of
Sutherlands Lake; sister Carlene (Douglas) Crouse of Granville Ferry;
sisters-in-law Patricia Berry of Lower Truro and Linda (Bert) Pratt of
Truro; aunts Mavis (Roode) Wilders of British Columbia, and Bessie
(Roode) Sawatsky and Carole (Roode) Marshall of Truro; and many
cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Arrangements are under the direction of Mattatall~Varner
Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. No visitation or funeral service
by family request. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
