Diane Roberta Granger – 2017

GRANGER, Diane Roberta (formerly Lewis, nee Aselstyne)
Passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital on Monday, March 13, 2017 in her 79th year. Beloved Mother of Steve (Cyndi), Chris (Heather), Rob (Sue) and Angie Lewis. Loving Granny to Brian (Amy), Zak, Eric, Shannon, Ben, Kevin, Marc, Scott, Aja and Katelyn. Sister to Mike (late Beth) Aselstyne and Judy (Jean-Pierre) Arnold. Predeceased by parents Robert and Muriel Aselstyne.
Diane was devoted Teacher all her life. After several years at the Ontario Hospital School until it closed, she joined the Simcoe County Public Board where she taught French in several Orillia area elementary schools, then in Bradford until retirement. Diane continued to volunteer her time to teach ESL and reading skills until the day before she went into the hospital for the last time. She was a Founder, Past President and faithful volunteer for 25 years at the Helping Hands Food Bank in Bradford, and a 50 – year canvasser for the Canadian Cancer Society, recognized by the Kiwanis Club with the Paul Harris Fellow Award, Senior Citizen of the Year , as well as many other Community Awards. Her Faith, Church life, love of music, children, gardening, knitting, crocheting, or bingo and scrabble with her new friends at the Birchmere never stopped her from trying to help anyone – from Family members to Cambodian Refugees to someone she just met.
Diane never wanted anyone to “make a fuss”, so at her wishes the will be no Service. The Family will hold a private Celebration in the Summer. If desired, memorial donations can be made through Simcoe Funeral Home to your choice of Church, the Sharing Place (Orillia Food Bank) or the Regent Park School reading program.
