Obituary of David Carter
David Marvin Carter, born November 25, 1949, passed away peacefully after a brief but courageous battle with cancer at his home in Norval, Ontario, surrounded by the family he loved.
Son to the late Joan (nee Browne) and Ormie Carter of Norval, David lived most of his life along the Credit River where he and Ellen (nee Yates), his wife and best friend of more than 43 years, raised their sons James (Jacky) and Michael (Bailey). Adored Grandpa, best game creator, poet and song master to William, Thomas, Avery and Baby Carter. Caring son-in-law to Elizabeth Chappell (nee Yates) and the late James Yates. Much loved brother of Janice Hughes (Peter), Jamie, Kathy Gastle (George) and Connie Karlsson. Loving Uncle Dave to his many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He will be missed by his large family, loyal friends and work mates across Canada and beyond.
David considered himself incredibly lucky to have had a happy childhood, good friends, a loving marriage, sons he was so proud of and, best of all, the gift of grandchildren. He lived life to the fullest, travelled extensively, and more than earned his reputation as a visionary, inventor and leader. His business interests spanned roofing, cogeneration, farming and more, yet David will be remembered most for his pioneering role in hydro development and recent venture into robotics. David was recognized for his role in the beginnings of the private power industry by the Ontario Waterpower Association. He spent much of his career working in partnership with First Nations and other communities. He was especially proud to receive the Blue Planet Award for the Sechelt Generating station in BC and its spawning channel that restored tens of thousands of salmon to the inlet.
David moved easily in any walk of life. People were drawn to his dynamic and warm personality, curious mind, eternal optimism, and enthusiasm to “just do it.” He wanted to do so much more. An entrepreneur since childhood, David had an insatiable need to work, explore ideas and solve problems, all the while striving to be a better person.
Intelligent. Honest. Generous. David was always a gentleman.
A visitation will be held at J.S. Jones Funeral Home in Georgetown, Ontario on Thursday November 30th from 3pm until 8pm. A private family service is planned.
A celebration of David’s life to be held at the Carter Family Farm at 9880 Winston Churchill Boulevard in Norval at 1pm on December 1st. This is an indoor/outdoor setting.
David loved children and was especially aggrieved at their suffering whether through illness, disability or poverty. PLEASE in lieu of flowers consider donating to a charity of your choice that will improve a child’s life.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of David
