Obituary Overview
Forever In Our Hearts
It is with tremendous sadness we announce the passing of Dave. Best friend, loving companion, devoted father and the Rock of our family.
Dearly missed by his devastated family, he leaves behind the love of his life Geraldine and his two sons, Michael (Deanna) and Jeremy, who were his greatest pride and joy.
Dave was a builder and an adventurer, a jokester and a dreamer. Everywhere we look we see Dave’s hands, his heart and his soul. He built our house, he helped friends build their houses. He was a man of many trades and could get anything accomplished.
He was the corner post of the neighbourhood, always there for the neighbourhood kids. If there was a hockey game going on, Dave was there making it all happen. Go Flames! Everywhere Dave went that was when the party started. His laugh preceded him every step he took.
Legendary bonfires, epic camp outs in that big blue bus and too many stories we dare not print are all Dave’s trademark style.
This last year was so very difficult for a man who could not sit still for one minute. He was determined to battle a fight that began in 2013 which led him to a stem cell transplant in December of 2016. Alas, in the end he gave it his all as he always does and sadly, this time, it wasn’t enough.
Dave was predeceased by his parents, John and Martha Bernhardt (he so missed Mom’s cream chicken) and his father-in-law, Mitchell Krupka.
Sprouts, as he was affectionately known, is survived by his sister Kathy (Al); his five brothers Ray (Jo-ann), Pat (Shelly), James (Bonnie), Blair (Chris), and Jerry; mother-in-law Frieda Krupka; in-laws Darlene, Denise (Dean), Ken (Sandra), and Dallas (Terri-Ann); Papa to Elijah; and Oreo, best fur friend, who left one week before Dave to guide the way. Also left mourning Dave’s passing are his numerous and loved friends, nieces and nephews, too many to list here.
He leaves us his beloved 57 Pontiac and a hole in our hearts as he heads off to find that perfect camping spot in the sky. Only Dave will be able to figure out a way to build bonfires in heaven.
A CELEBRATION OF DAVE’S LIFE will be held at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1909 Ottawa Street, Regina, SK on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. Join us as we remember him with love and laughter.
Very special thanks to everyone who gave so much of themselves to help care for Dave during his struggle. Ken and Sandra Krupka, Dr. Sabry and Dr. El-Sayed and to the Saskatchewan Cancer Clinic, the Bone Marrow Unit (BMT) 6100 – Dave loved you all and we will be forever grateful. Hugs to Dr. Zarkovic for being such a loving physician and friend to Dave. Thank you is not enough for Unit 3B Pasqua Hospital Regina. I
n lieu of flowers, please make donations in memory of Dave to the Children’s Wish Foundation or the Regina Humane Society.
