It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Alexander Robb (Dave) Dalgetty at the age of 85 as a result of heart failure. Dave is remembered by his loving wife, Eileen; sisters, Joyce, Norma, and Robin Lee (Gary); nephew, Herb (Tracey), and extended family, Judith (Sharon), Nicola (Tyler), Sian (Greg) and Chantel. Dave is predeceased by his father, David; and his mother, Edith. Dave was a true Calgarian through and through.
As a young lad, Dave joined the Navy Cadets at HMCS Tecumseh and continued his service with the Navy Reserve. On his retirement, he volunteered with the Navy Colour Guard participating in ceremonies at Peace Park, Remembrance Day, funeral services for veterans, marching in Little Britches Rodeo in High River and the annual parade in Canmore. Dave also volunteered with the Poppy Fund Committee for veterans and was always busy fundraising every November. As a volunteer for the HMSC Tecumseh Navy Museum, he enjoyed offering assistance to school classes and visitors.
He was privileged to attend with the Colour Guard for William and Kates goodbye to Calgary at Rotary Park in July 2011. In January 2012, Dave was presented a Navy Veterans Commemorative Watch for his participation with the Naval Colour Guard. Dave was a long-time member of the Navy Corvette Club. Dave was one of the men who started STARS Air Ambulance Service in Calgary and served as a founding director from 1985 to 2010. As a member of the Calgary Lions Club, Dave served on many committees and especially enjoyed working with the out of town bands, marching alongside in many Stampede parades. For many years, he volunteered with the early morning Stampede chuckwagon breakfasts and various cookouts around the city. For his service with the Lions Club, Dave was presented the Melvin Jones Fuller Humanitarian Award. He loved to aqua size at the Southland Leisure Centre. As a member of the Highwood Golf Club, Dave was very involved as a member and coordinator of the mixed league.
A heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses at the South Campus Hospital and the nurses and assistants at the Beverly Centre Lake Midnapore. A Celebration of Dave’s Life will be held at the Calgary Naval Veterans Association, 2402 – 2A Street SE, Calgary (the club is located in Stampede Park in the basement of the Trailblazer Centre) on Saturday, April 1, 2017 from 1:30 – 4:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dave’s memory to STARS, Box 570, 1441 Aviation Park NE, Calgary, Alberta T2E 8M7.
“Always in our hearts, We’ll meet again.”
