Obituary for David Shellington
Peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, David Charles Shellington passed away at the Woodstock General Hospital on Saturday November 18, 2017. David was 78 years of age. He was born at home in Harley, Ontario and lived most of his life in Burford, Ontario.
David is the dearly loved husband of Gloria (nee Hinan) for 56 years. Much loved and very proud father of Dave and Cathy Shellington, Charlottetown, PEI and Matthew and Kim Shellington, Paris, Ontario and brother to Karen Hunt, Paris, Ontario. He is predeceased by his parents Earl and Marie Shellington and his brother Phillip Shellington.
David was a transport driver for 48 years, mostly with S & S Haulage, a company founded by his late father Earl. He was an active member of the Burford Community especially in sports. He served as the President of the Burford Minor Hockey Association and coached numerous teams during those years. David was also a volunteer Firefighter in Burford and a member of the Burford Masonic Lodge No. 106. After retirement he became an avid golfer as a member of Burford Golf Links. He truly cherished travelling with his family on vacations which always included golf, great food and many happy memories.
Friends & family will be received at the Keith Ovington Funeral Home, 134 King Street, Burford, Ontario on Wednesday from 5-8 pm. Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Thursday, November 23, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Interment Harley Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy donations in David’s memory may be made to the Woodstock Hospital Foundation or the Brant S.P.C.A. www.keithovington.ca 519-449-1112
