It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John
Archibald at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Thursday, February

the son of the late Dr. Donald and Mary (Lindsay)
Archibald.
John graduated from UNB with a Bachelor of Science in
Forestry in 1964. For 31 years he was employed by the Province of New
Brunswick beginning as Director of Parks for the Department of Natural
Resources. John was a founding member of the Canadian Heritage Rivers
Board and New Brunswick liason to the St. Croix International Waterway

committee. John’s great passion was the education of young
people on the importance of wetland conservation. He was a key driver
behind the Project Webfoot Wetland Conservation Program. Through his
dedicated efforts, from its origin in 1999, he has helped introduce
over 100,000 school children to the importance of wetland
conservation. In addition to numerous other awards he would
receive, in 2003, he was awarded the Queens Golden Jubilee Medal for
his service to Ducks Unlimited Canada and, in 2011, John received the
Longard Award from The Gulf of Maine Council on Marine Environment for
his dedication to environmental preservation.
In earlier years John was involved in the NB Junior Curling
Program and was one of the founding leaders for the 1st Skyline Acres
Cub Pack.
John was an avid duck hunter and enjoyed fishing. He
especially enjoyed the time spent with his family and friends at his
cottage on Maquapit Lake. He was also a member of the Fredericton
Golden Club.
