It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Cyril Eavis, on Saturday, November 25, 2017, at home.
Born August 23, 1942, in North Sydney, he was the son of the late Clayton and Margaret (Strickland) Eavis.
Cyril was a welder by trade and a lifetime member of Local 682 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union. In his younger years, Cyril worked on construction sites across Canada and then worked over ten years at the heavy water plant in Glace Bay. He would finish his working career with Magna International in North Sydney, retiring after 15 years of service.
Cyril always kept busy by taking on projects around the house and doing welding projects for anyone who stopped in with something in need of repair.
Cyril enjoyed spending time with his family and would always look forward to the backyard horseshoe tournaments. He was an avid baseball player in his younger years and an animal lover, especially his dogs.
Cyril is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie (Taylor), Eavis, by his four sons, Donald (Debbie) Eavis and Vernon (Brenda) Eavis, both of Georges River, Terrence (Bonnie) Eavis, Scotch Lake, Clayton (Ginette) Eavis, North Sydney; by his eleven grandchildren, Cyril, Corey, Melissa (Mark), Ashely (Mike), Tyler, Nathan MacCormick, Stephanie (Dave), Ryan, Andre, Brittany (Steve), Garrett and by his three great grandsons, Levi, Archer, Carter. By his three brothers, Tom (Yvonne) Eavis, Ron (Joan) Eavis, both of North Sydney and his twin brother, Phil (Karen) Eavis, Ball’s Creek.
Also surviving are his sisters-in law. Gwen Keeping, Shirley (Ronald) Rose and Linda (Dave) Bennett, all of North Sydney, Betty (Dave) Beanlands, Peggy’s Cove, Joan (Alfie) Warhuus, Georges River; brothers-in-law, Don Taylor and Tom (Suzanne) Taylor, both of Ontario, Charlie (Patsy) Taylor, Sydney Mines and by many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Buddy, mother and father-in-law, Charles and Jessie Taylor, sister-in-law, Marjorie Livingstone and brother-in-law, Ralph Taylor.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank V.O.N., Palliative Care, Dr. McCarville and staff of 4A and 4B at the CB Regional Hospital for the excellent care and support given to Cyril and his family. Special thanks also to Local 682 of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union for their help and assistance.
By Cyril’s request there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private burial will take place at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to V.O.N, Palliative Care or the Patient Care Fund at the Cape Breton Cancer Centre.
