Cora “Yvonne” Soden passed away peacefully on May 6, 2017 at The Meadows long term care facility in Swift Current SK. The funeral service was held at the Elk’s Hall in Kyle SK, at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2017, with Reverend Jim McNaughton officiating. The Life Tribute was read by Rebecca Soden and Paul Soden. The organist was Darlene Smith, the soloist was Matt Ayalew, the ushers were Harley Gustavson, Lief Gustavson and Emery Gustavson, and the pallbearers were Brian Soden, Curtis Friesen, Calvin Friesen, Brenton Peters, Lyal Lee, Wayne Pittman, Colin Gauthier and Liam Gauthier. The interment service was held at White Bear Cemetery. Yvonne was born July 13, 1941 in Cabri SK. She became employed at a young age by Cabri Union Hospital as a nurse’s aide. She married Leonard Soden on September 29, 1962 and resided on the family farm near White Bear SK, where they raised five children. Yvonne enjoyed playing cards, watching curling and had a love of music. Leonard and Yvonne moved to Swift Current in 2013 where they purchased the duplex of her dreams. Yvonne spent the last 2 years of her life at the Palliser and The Meadows. She was predeceased by her parents, Audrey and Harold Merritt, mother and father-in-law, Emerson and Evelyn Soden; sister, Helen Mead; sisters-in-law, Marlene Foster and Brenda Merritt; and brother-in-law, Don Garrett. She is survived by her husband, Leonard; four sisters, Fran Garrett, Donna (Fred) Rohrich, Debbie Wagner and Valerie (Al) Love; brother, Bryan Merritt; brother-in-law, Barry Foster; five children, Connie Soden of Saskatoon SK; Paul Soden of White Bear SK, Penny Soden of Vermillion AB, Dixie (Jason) Crawford of Medicine Hat AB, and Melanie (Mike) Hilsendeger of Redcliff AB; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family and friends of Yvonne would like to extend a thank you to the staff of The Meadows, especially house 14, for the excellent care given to her.
