Colton Fred Spurrell (Calgary) - August 1

Colton Fred Spurrell (Calgary) – August 1, 1989 – December 29, 2016

Colton Spurrell was born on Aug 1, 1989 at the High River Hospital and passed away quietly at his home in Calgary, AB. at the age of 27. He was predeceased by his great grandmother, Una Burley; grandmother Helen Burley; and grandmother Edna Spurrell.
He is survived by his loving Momma, Lori-Kay Spurrell; step-father Martin Wilson; his devoted brother Taylor; his partner and the love of his life, Andrew Simpson; his grandfather Fred Burley; his Pops, Ross Spurrell; and his father, Paul.…
Colton is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins, but he will be missed most of all by his loyal and most trusted friend, his dog Franklyn.
Colt was a shining star wherever he went and always brought with him a spirit and passion for life that lit up a room when he walked in. He lived his life with passion, commitment, honour and decency. No matter where his travels took him, he connected with people with ease and never judged anyone. Even when wrestling with the demons that haunted his life, he kept his sense of humour and his humanity.
He had finally turned a corner in his life. He had embraced his sobriety with a quiet confidence that was an inspiration to others. He had finally found love and was just beginning to feel contentment for the first time in his life. Colt was proud of his new apartment and was working three different jobs with commitment and diligence. One of those jobs was being a caregiver and best friend to a young man that Colton mentored and cared for deeply, Riley Pratt. Colton always said that in truth, he learned more from Riley than Riley ever learned from him.
Colton’s dreams were finally within his reach, barely beyond his fingertips when he was taken from us. He was poised to become the remarkable man we all knew he was destined to be. Colt often told us that he was only as good as he made himself each and every day.
Gone but not forgotten, he will be remembered and loved for all time. The legacy of his beautiful smile and warmth of spirit will endure forever to those of us who knew him best. Farewell, sweet prince… your light will shine on us all until the end of time.
