STILLWATER – Colin Bernard “Duke” Coady, 83, Stillwater, Guysborough Co., died Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at home.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Frederick Michael and Mary Eleanor (DeLorey) Coady. Duke was employed with various companies and prior to retirement owned and operated C.B. Coady Auto Body Repair. After retiring and relocating to Stillwater in the early 80’s he kept active tinkering with small engines. Duke was a proud member of each community in which he resided, selflessly volunteering his time to individuals and organizations. In earlier years, he had been a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, New Glasgow, The Lions Club, Trenton and a founding member of the Pictou County Antique Car Club. Duke was a 50-year member of UCT Pictonian Council 879, where he served as Secretary-Treasurer for 17 years. After relocation to Stillwater, he worked tirelessly with the St. Mary’s Shooters Association, Sherbrooke Opportunities Society, St. Mary’s Rivers Association and Sherbrooke Opportunities Society. Duke was a very active member of the Nova Scotia PC Party. During illness and after the passing of his wife Edith, he became the primary caregiver for their special needs daughter, Colleen. Duke leaves a legacy of strength, perseverance and love.
Surviving are daughters, Colleen, at home; Lynda Clark (Barry Mills), Port Bickerton; Marjorie, New Glasgow; sons, Colin Jr. “Dukie” (Joanne), Westville; Derek “Duke” (Bonnie), Coalburn; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Lillian, Pearl and Rita; numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by wife, Edith; sister, Kathleen Gratto; brothers, Alvin, Jack, Henry, Ralph “Bud” and George.
In honour of Duke’s wishes cremation has taken place and a private graveside service will be held in St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Stillwater.
