Obituary of Clyde Newhook
NEWHOOK: Elwood ‘Clyde’ –
1931-2017
Passed away peacefully on Monday, November 6, 2017 at the Chatham-Kent Hospice in the presence of his family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Clyde was born in Norman’s Cove, Trinity Bay, Newfoundland and moved to Corner Brook as a teenager. Clyde graduated with his Bachelor of Arts from Memorial University in St. John’s Newfoundland before receiving his Masters in Education at University of Toronto. His career took him to Bonavista, Stephenville and Gander. After his retirement, Clyde moved to St. John’s and most recently to Chatham, ON.
He is predeceased by his parents Jacob and Sarah (Warren) Newhook, his sister Mildred Temple (Alfred), brother Maxwell Newhook (Daisy) and brother-in-law Gilbert Bonnell.
Leaving to mourn his wife of 59 years, Loretta (nee Bonnell), two daughters Beverly (Tim) of Stuart, FL, and Karen (Darren) of Chatham, ON, son Perry (Janine) of Caledon East, ON and sister-in-law Marjorie Bonnell of Fortune, NL.
Proud Grandpa of Erin, Kevin, Alex, Sarah, Brayden and Kai. Great-Grandpa to Noelle. He will be missed by a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. Cremation has taken place with a private service to be held.
In lieu of flowers, donations made in memory of Clyde to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
