It is with great sadness that the family of Cleveland Belyea of Woodstock announcing his passing on Jan.13th 2017 at the Upper River Valley Hospital, after a battle with cancer.
Cleve was born in Saint John on August 13th 1928 to the late Major Christie M Belyea and Victoria (Wilcox) Belyea.
Cleve attended New Albert School and Saint John Vocational School. In his early working career, he worked as a Stevador at the Port of Saint John. Cleve moved to Woodstock and operated Windy Acre Apple Orchard for 15 years. He then operated Connell Park Campground till his retirement.
Cleve was an active Sailor. Cleve was a past Member of the Royal Kennebeccasis Yacht Club. Cruising and racing his yacht the Merry Major, taking two Club Championships in 1964 and 1968. Cleve served on the Racing Committee at R.K.Y.C. for many years. Cleve was also a member of the Martinon Yacht Club where he cruised and raced Wind dancer with his son Christie taking two Club Championships in 2005 and 2006.
Cleve was an active Curler, being a member of the Woodstock Curling Club. Cleve was also a member of the Woodstock Elks Club and the Woodstock Golf and Centre Club.
Whenever Cleve was in Saint John he would stop into his favourite Restaurant Bobs Corner Take Out to have a chat with lifelong friend Bob Wong.
Cleve leaves behind his Wife Hazel of Woodstock. Children, Rod (Raylene) Belyea of Florida. Rock Belyea of Saint John, Christie (Marianne) Belyea of Saint John. Step Children Beth (Carl) Mclaughlin, Wayne (Helen) Fredricks, Terry (Pam) Fredricks, Amy (Keith) Hagerman all of Woodstock. Cleve leaves behind 17 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren.
He was pre deceased by Brother Christie and Sister Phyllis and Brother In-law Harry Leamen. Active Pallbearers will be Randy Leamen, Rod Belyea, Rock Belyea, Christie Belyea, Wayne Fredricks, and Terry Fredricks. Honorary Pallbearers: Mcgregor Grant, Rory Grant (RKYC), Sandy Robertson, Chris Harrington (RKYC) and, David and Jim Brown (MYC)
The family would like to give special thanks to Amy Hagerman and Rose Gauvin and thanks to the nurses and staff at the Upper River Valley Hospital. There will be no visitation or Funeral Service at this time. Interment will be in the Cedar Hill cemetery, Saint John, NB at a later date.
