In Loving Memory
Christina M. (Murphy) Bird age 87 of Amherst, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at Gables Lodge in Amherst.
Born in Goodwood, Halifax Co. NS she was the daughter of the late Frederick E. and Lillian (Canning) Drysdale.
Christina graduated from St. Patrick’s Girls High School in Halifax in 1945, following her graduation Christina worked at a drug Store in Halifax and later met her husband Denis F. Murphy who was the General Manager of the Capital Theater in Halifax. Later they moved to Sackville, NB where they operated both theaters in the community for many years, then retired as a secretary with 20 years’ service, working for Armco Steel & Pipe. Christina was also employed with Tourism New Brunswick in Aulac, and following her husband’s passing she took over his clientelle with D. A. A. Motor Club Insurance. She was a faithful member of Trinity – St. Stephen’s United Church and was active with the UCW.
Christina is survived by her son Denis F. Murphy of Red Deer, Alberta, three grandchildren – Monica Stokes, Fredericton NB, Jaden and Alexandra Murphy both of Red Deer, two great grandchildren Luc and Julia both of Fredericton, one step-daughter Brenda (Edgar) Dewar of Cardigan PEI four nieces and one nephew.
Christina was pre-deceased by her first husband Denis F. Murphy and daughter Donna (Murphy) Stokes and her second husband Basil Bird, brother Frederick Drysdale and sister Diana Drysdale.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St, Amherst NS (902) 667-9906.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, December 11, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Byron Corkum officiating at Trinity – St. Stephens United Church, Amherst N.S. followed by interment in the Sackville Cemetery.
Family flowers only. Memorial contributions in Christina’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or charity of your choice.

My sincerest condolences to Denis & Family. I only met Christina in 2016 while working at Gables for a short time. I enjoyed visiting with her. She was a sweet, classy lady.
