Obituary for Christa Janette Hiller (Schulte)
It is with deep sadness that our family announces the passing of Christa J. Hiller at the age of 64 years.
She was predeceased by her parents, Gerd and Gretchen Schulte. Mourning her passing are her children, Richard Hiller (Carolyn), Susanne Hiller (Darren) and Matthew Hiller; her grandchildren, Triton, Madison and Nathon. She is also survived by her loving siblings, two brothers and three sisters and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family that will miss her dearly.
Mom was born in Friesoythe, Germany. She left for Canada with her family on November 29, 1959 aboard the M.S. Seven Seas with a stopover in Quebec City before arriving in Whitemouth, Manitoba on December 12, 1959. Mom attended Whitemouth Collegiate completing Grade 11 and later obtaining her high school diploma equivalent. Mom met Willie Hiller in 1969 and they later married on April 17, 1971. Mom and Dad made their first home at 127 Polson Avenue in Winnipeg, Manitoba where they welcomed baby Richard. Mom and Dad made their next home on 63 Hart Avenue where they welcomed baby Susanne. They then relocated to a new home at 7 Rizer Crescent and started Royal Upholstering where she leveraged her talents as an interior designer with draperies before they settled at 1099 Sherburn Street where they welcomed baby Matthew. After Mom and Dad parted, Mom made her last home at 167 Magnus Avenue in 1989.
Mom started her first job at the Royal Bank in Whitemouth in the spring of 1970. After moving to Winnipeg her career continued at CIBC starting in 1971 until 1998, then at Convergys from 1999 to 2010, concluding at TWCC. Mom was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2012, a disease she dealt with everyday of her life which ultimately took her from us.
Mom loved to travel: visiting family in Germany in 1985 and 2013, Florida in 1990, New York City in 2001, Caribbean in 2006 and 2016 and several trips to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico with her good friend David Sokolo. Mom especially loved to spend time with children and cherished time with her grandchildren. Her passions included music, fashion, trips to the beach, camping and chocolate.
A special thank you to our Tante’s Anne (Arthur) and Erika (Bodo) for their support of Mom during her illness and their assistance during this difficult time.
A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday October 12, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street with viewing prior to the service. Please join us for a reception following the service. Interment will be held at the Whitemouth Fellowship Cemetery at 3:00 p.m.
