Brewer, Charles “Sonny” Harvey-78, of Shelburne, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2017 at the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax, after a short, but courageous, battle with cancer. Born on June 24, 1939, in Halifax, he was a son of the late Nathan and Nora (Swinehammer) Brewer. Sonny spent over 30 years driving taxi in Halifax before retiring to Shelburne to be with his children and grandchildren. Sonny was an avid Blue Jay’s fan, enjoyed playing crib with his friends and his son-in-law Trevor, and enjoyed spending time with friends and family. Sonny was known as a bit of a story-teller and always enjoyed telling his tales. He is survived by his children, Kelley (Trevor) Rennehan and Todd (Charity) Brewer; his grandchildren Kaileen (Michael) Waddell, Cohan and Kennedie Rennehan, and Nathan Brewer, and by his sisters, Helen, Ruth, Shirley and Pearl, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Gerald, William, Murray, Victor, Douglas, Donald, Emma, Doris and Margie. The family sends thanks to Roseway Hospital, VON (Shelburne) and the Victoria General Hospital for their care. Cremation has taken place under the direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Homes & Crematorium Ltd. As per Sonny’s wishes, there will be no service. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice.
