January 14- 1923 – November 2- 2017 (age 94)
Carrie Lee Moran of Red Deer Alberta, passed away November 2, 2017. Carrie was born January 14th, 1923 in Churchland, Virginia to Charles and Carrie Dixon and raised for the most part in Philadelphia, Pa.
Carrie married Eugene Moran while attending West Virginia State College where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Education. Joined with her husband she moved to Detroit and worked as a teacher until they moved to Blenheim, Ontario in 1964. Moving on to Picton she began teaching the mentally handicapped. Later she moved to Red Deer, Alberta and continued to teach at Central school working with the emotionally handicapped children until she retired. Her journey with education did not end in retirement. She was a very active member in the Retired Teachers Association, a member of the Golden Circle and one of the founding members of an incredible group of women who became a lifelong group of dear friends and support the “Spinning Jennies”. She became proficient in taking wool from sheep and alpaca and any other fury animal that would donate, spinning it into yarn, then something beautifully crocheted or knitted. There was hardly a craft that she would attempt and not master. She made clothes, a wedding dress, hats, gloves, slippers, rugs, coats, dolls with hair from her kids, hand quilts, birdhouses and other woodwork. She delivered meals to the elderly, visited, the sick, and was kind to every person she met. A beloved neighbor and loved by every person who met her.
Carrie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed exposing all her children to the world around them taking them on short excursions in town to see animals, nature and whatever there was to learn. She enjoyed baking bread and cakes allowing them to learn alongside her. Carrie herself was a lifelong student and teacher and her greatest attribute was respect for everyone. Proceeded in death by her husband Eugene, her brother Charles and sister Verdelle. She is survived by her two daughters Karen Pluger and Julie Tucker (and loving son-in-law’s James Pluger and Roy Tucker). Her grandchildren Ian, Michael, Syretta, Jasmine and Steven and her great grandchildren Jaylen, Destin, Kayden, Juliet and King and loving cousins Stephen and Jeffery.
