1920-2017
It is with sadness that the family of Carl Bruce announce his
passing at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton N.B. after a
long, happy and fulfilling life. He was born in Wilmot, NS, to the
late Raymond and Agnes (Gates) Bruce.
He graduated from Acadia University with a BA in
1941, married his college sweet heart Isobel Spinney in 1942 and
served in WW2, retiring with the rank of Captain. He established Bruce
Motors Ltd, a GM dealership, in Middleton, NS in 1948 where he and
Isobel resided until their move to Fredericton, NB in 2008 to be close
to their family.
Carl was active in community, church and business
affairs. He served as Mayor of Middleton, as Deacon of the Middleton
Baptist Church, on the Board of Governors of Acadia University and on
the GM Dealers Council of Canada and Eastern USA to mention a
few.
Carl was an avid sportsman excelling at hockey and baseball.
He was elected to the Acadia Sports Hall of Fame and Middleton Sports
Heritage Wall of Fame.
Carl is remembered best for his love and support of his
family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, his sister
Margarete and his brother Beverley (Bev).
He is survived by his wife of nearly 75 years, his three
sons, Gary (Gwen), Brian (Mary) and Calvin (Daphne) all of
Fredericton, seven grandchildren and seven
great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Carl’s
life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers a donation
can be made to the Middleton Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton Baptist
Church, Annapolis Valley Historical Society or charity of choice.
Arrangements has been entrusted by McAdam’s Funeral
Home.
