Surrounded by the love of his family at the Grey Bruce Health Services, Cam Robinson of Owen Sound passed peacefully from us.
Loving, and much loved, husband and life partner of Karen Robinson (nee Hooper), Cam will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by family and friends both here and abroad.
Predeceased by his parents Dr. Harry and Mrs. Agnes Robinson (nee Hewson), Cam grew up in Hamilton, moving to Owen Sound in 1971 to begin his 30 year career as an educator at O.S.C.V.I. in Owen Sound and later G.B.S.S. in Meaford. With multiple Science and Education Degrees under his belt, he was a role model to many, always following the guiding principle to treat others as he would have them treat him.
Energetic, hardworking, fiercely determined, supremely organized both at work and in his personal life, he reflected integrity, honesty, loyalty, the value of physical fitness, financial responsibility and humility. While often shy in demeanour, he was loud in good deeds that transcended borders and cultures. Rigid in the ways he perceived things should be done, he struggled to accept change in routines or schedules.
For many years an avid skier and curler, his passion was always the water–living on its shores, boating and cruising its expansiveness, or scuba diving its wondrous depths. As a past Commodore and current active member, Cam spent many happy hours at the Georgian Yacht Club, often laboriously applying coat upon coat of wax to already flawlessly gleaming hulls prior to heading to the North Channel for summer adventures with fellow boaters. An avid “weather watcher and forecaster”, Cam took delight in advising of impending weather changes, often to the chagrin of those being warned as his forecasts were frustratingly accurate.
Cam was proud to be a 32nd Degree Mason and an active member, and current Treasurer, of the local Ramoca Shrine Club, constantly exuding the virtuous Masonic principles in his daily life.
Retirement was long and happy, allowing extensive travel, extended boating and cruising, and adventurous winters “south”. He had many more trips to make and many more seas to sail but sadly this was not to be.
Undaunted by the diagnosis of an extremely rare cancer, Cam faced his medical condition with strength, determination, courage and dignity, doggedly maintaining his independence and never allowing it to rob him of his personal identity.
Cam will be missed by his many friends whom he cherished and who helped enrich his life. He would want them to know that their love and support encouraged and helped sustain him as he battled his cancer. His family is profoundly grateful for the support and many acts of kindness shown to him by his dear friends, his medical team of doctors and nurses at GBHS, and the dedicated personnel of both Owen Sound Care Partners and CCAC.
Survived by his beloved wife Karen, Cam also leaves behind his sole sibling Lynda Rosser (to whom he was a kind, loving and supportive brother) and her husband Hal, of Burlington; his cherished niece Wendy Stevenson, her husband David and their daughters Abbi and Emma of Surrey B.C.; cousin Jo-Anne Smith and her family of Minneapolis Minnesota; cousins John Hilts (Janet) and Debbi Luciani (John) and their families in the Burlington area.
Friends may call at the BRIAN E. WOOD FUNERAL HOME, 250–14th Street West, Owen Sound, ON, N4K 3X8 (519-376-7492) on Monday Feb. 6th from 2:00–4:00pm and 7:00–9:00pm. A Funeral for Cam will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Tues. Feb. 7th at 2:00pm. St. George’s Masonic Lodge #88 will hold a Masonic Service at the Funeral Home on Monday evening at 6:45 pm. All Masonic Brethren are invited to attend. Private interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Shriners Hospitals for Children; the Owen Sound Regional Foundation, Oncology Department; or the Residential Hospice of Grey-Bruce (Chapman House) would be appreciated as an expression of sympathy. Cam navigated his illness as he did his entire life–with courage,
