Obituary for Boyd Harper
Harper, Boyd “Bud” Alvin
Peacefully, in his 86th year, at the St Mary’s Hospital in Kitchener, on Tuesday, November 28, 2017.
Survived by his daughters Gerda (Saber Fermand), Waterloo and Renate (Henry Michalak) Kitchener, and grandchildren Elyas, Pauline, Timur, and Peter, nephew Gordon and niece Jane. Predeceased by his wife of almost 50 years Lilly (Walter), parents Archie and Florence (Bryenton), brothers Burton and Donald and sister Rena.
Bud was an amiable soul loved by all who knew him. Born in the Miramichi of New Brunswick and lived his younger years in Atholvile and when in his teens joined the army (R.C.R.) during which he served in Korea on the front line – something that he, his fellow servicemen, the free Korean people believed in and is still quite relevant today, “maybe they’ll want me back again” he recently quipped. After a brief time in civvy street he joined the Airforce as an Armourer and once again did his duty.
He came to Kitchener and worked at Kraus Carpets until he retired as a Foreman after well over 30 years of service seeing it from the days when Mr. Kraus walked the floor to what it has become now.
He enjoyed the wilderness lifestyle and would have liked a small cabin in the bush “out east” however he settled on bringing up a family and spending time at the Army Navy Air force club becoming as it were “one of the fixtures” he was also an active member of the Korean Veterans Association of Canada.
A memorial service will be held in mid December at Henry Walser Funeral Home (519) 749-8467. His ashes and his wife Lilly’s will be laid to rest side by side in the veterans memorial area at Williamsburg Cemetery, as he requested. Please visit www.henrywalser.com to view Boyd’s memorial.
