passed away peacefully,
on Monday, November 6th 2017
at the I.O.O.F. Seniors Home
in Barrie, at the age of 95.
Pre-deceased by her Husband, Robert Boothby of Dwight,
and her Daughter Kathryn.
She is survived by her loving Son John (Karen H)
and cherished Grand Daughter Morgan.
Born and raised in Newton Stewart, Scotland,
the Daughter of Charles Gilchrist and Annie McNab,
Muriel came to Canada on a teachers exchange
program at the age of 25.
After a short time in Burlington, ON,
Muriel moved into the Port Cunnington area
and became a well respected elementary school teacher
and in 1956, became the first principal
of Irwin Memorial Public School.
After the birth of her two children,
Muriel returned to teaching at Irwin,
where she remained until retirement in 1986.
The highlight of her career would have been
teaching her son, John, for grades 5 and 6.
A special thank you to the staff of the I.O.O.F. Barrie
for their devoted care and comfort
provided to Muriel during her stay.
At Muriel’s and the family’s request,
Cremation has taken place,
and no funeral service planned at this time.
Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation
or the Simcoe Muskoka Regional Cancer Centre,
in Muriel’s name, would be appreciated by the family.
