It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Blair Stankowski in Calgary, AB
on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at the age of 50. He is survived by his mother Pauline (and the late Frank Stankowski); and sons Bret and Colton, their mother Connie and brothers Dwayne and Ivan (Rhonda).
Blair was born on July 12th, 1967 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan but spent most of his childhood in Nipawin, SK. He attended university in Saskatoon and graduated in 1990. Following convocation, he began his career teaching at Holy Cross School in Calgary. He worked at various schools throughout the district such as Father Scollen, Blessed Cardinal Newman, Don Bosco and St. Jean Brebeuf before moving into administration. He moved up quickly after completing his master’s degree through Newman Theological College. He reached his lifelong goal of becoming principal when he was assigned his first principalship at Holy Trinity School at the age of 39. After working as principal at various other schools, his last position was at St. Albert the Great.
Blair played hockey in his youth and as an adult enjoyed golfing and camping with his family. He traveled with his family to various locations including Mexico, Cuba and Hawaii. The most important thing in Blair’s life was his sons, Bret age 22 and Colton age 20.
As a practicing and devote Catholic, Blair played a role in various ministries at St. Albert the Great Parish such as Baptism team leader, Eucharistic and Hospitality Ministry, as well as the 9:00 am Choir. He was a self-taught instrumentalist and played guitar, banjo and mandolin. He enjoyed practicing and had a love for country and classic rock music.
Blair will be dearly missed by his family including many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, colleagues and students. His passing will leave a hole in the hearts of many. Rest in peace dear son, dad and Mr. Stan.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Albert the Great Catholic Parish (10 Prestwick Drive SE, Calgary, AB) on Monday, August 28, 2017 at 3:00 p m. Interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family have requested that donations be made to the St. Albert the Great Building Fund.
