William Goodzeck, a longtime resident of Deadwood/Manning Alberta, passed away on December 9, 2017, at the age of 74 in Peace River.
Dad was born on January 25, 1943, to Metro and Mary Goodzeck, the youngest sibling to Peter, Helen, Alec, and George. He grew up in the Woodburn school district on land that was homesteaded by his father and grandfather. Dad grew up on the family farm and in a home with religious values, and this stemmed his active church attendance throughout his life. In his early adulthood, he worked off the farm, first at PW Box Factory in Chinook Valley and later with his brothers he co-owned Goodzeck Construction.
In 1966 Dad married Marjorie Deller of Deadwood, and shortly thereafter Dad and Peter left the construction company and purchased the family farm. He and mom had four children Joanne, Lori, Eric, and Ivan. Dad continued to grain farm, supplementing with livestock, trapping and oilfield work. In 1980 there was an opportunity to increase acreage in a consolidated parcel, so the family farm was sold and we moved to northwest of Manning where he and Peter continued to farm. Where his children grew to adulthood, and after a lengthy marriage Dad and Mom divorced. On January 15, 2005, Dad married Hannah Gustafson; they were married for 12 years until his death. Throughout his life, Dad spent much of his time outdoors and had a great passion for trapping, hunting, and fishing. Six years ago Dad was diagnosed with dementia; we watched helplessly as he declined for many years until he succumbed to pneumonia. We the family would like to thank the staff of Sutherland Place Peace River for the excellent care Dad received during his time there. Bill is survived by his wife Hannah, children Joanne (Dennis), Lori (Robert), Eric (Sheryl) and Ivan (Terra) grandchildren Natasha, Victoria, Miranda, Melissa, Kassandra, Daniel, Stephanie, and Savanna. Siblings Peter (Judy), Helen, Alec (Lil) and George (Golda), and Nieces and Nephews and were predeceased by his parents.
Graveside Service: At the Deadwood Cemetery on Monday Dec 11 @ 2:00 pm. Luncheon to follow at the Manning Family Worship Centre.
