Bent – Douglas Edgar, 67, of Liverpool, Queens County, passed away peacefully in Queens General Hospital, Liverpool on Wednesday, November 22, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Liverpool, he was a son of the late Douglas C. and Hazel (Welch) Bent.
He was employed for over 50 years with Mersey Seafoods, serving as a captain for over 30 years on various fishing vessels. Doug enjoyed ice fishing, hunting, playing pool, dancing and listening to music. Above all else, Doug was most passionate about his family and spending time with them.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Verna (Oickle); daughters Diana Bent (Jordan Croft), of Liverpool, Tammy Schennery (Wayne Whynot), of Liverpool, Tanya Bent (James Selig), of Bridgewater; son Douglas (Stacey Hanley), of Liverpool; grandchildren Stanley Bent, Brandon Hyson, Tiffany Nickerson, Douglas Mansfield, Chantal Killam, Logan Mansfield, Summer Bent; great granddaughter Jamie McKinnon; sister, Gloria McLeod, of Bridgewater; brother, Gregory, of Cape Breton.
He was predeceased by sisters, Patricia Bent, Karen LaForte and Patsy Wong.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., on Tuesday, November 28th, 2017 and a Celebration of Doug’s Life will be held on Wednesday, November 29th, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., both from Chandlers’ Funeral Chapel, Liverpool.
