Bauke Steegstra – 2016

STEEGSTRA
After a short sickness and at an age of 84 years old, Bauke Steegstra passed away peacefully at the Olds Hospital on December 19, 2016. He was born on March 6, 1932 in Marrum, (Friesland) the Netherlands. He was the youngest child in a family of 6 children (4 boys, 2 girls) and grew up on the family dairy-mixed farm. He married Johanna Steegstra-Valk on May 2, 1957 and together they raised 7 children. It was his dream to emmigrate to Canada in 1982 where they settled in Steinbach area in Manitoba on a dairy farm. Beginning to farm at that time was tough but with faith and perseverance they managed to build up a nice farm. In 1989, another move for the betterment of the family was made with a purchase of a dairy farm in Olds. They really liked the area and made many friends/acquaintances around Olds. Bauke liked to garden and travel. He made two trips to Australia to visit his brother, made many trips to the USA and went back to Holland regularly. Till recently he made many trips to town of Olds by car and always visited his favourite Tim Horton’s place. He was socially and always had time for a little chat with almost everybody he encountered. He leaves behind his wife Johanna Steegstra-Valk; sons Andries, Henk (Tietie), Oene; daughters Jacoba (Rob) Mackie, Tina (Kirk) Rutley, Jenny (Mike) Deraaf, Frida (Hendrik) Vandijk; 14 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild behind.
