Basja Cornelia Demmers went home to be with her Saviour on December 18, 2016, after a long road of 20+ years with Type 1 Diabetes and an eating disorder.
Basja is the much loved daughter of Martin Demmers and Tina Demmers, deceased (Port Perry). Beloved sister of Théa Demmers and Chad Polito (Montréal), Tricia Demmers (Boston) and Kara Demmers (Port Perry). Endeared aunt of Mattéo and Aidan Polito (Montréal). Dear granddaughter of Johanna Vooys (Whitby) and niece of Pat Woodley-Vooys and Paul Corey (Tyrone), Lydia Vooys and Rob MacLeod (Oshawa), Cobi Demmers (Guelph) and Adriaan and Brenda Demmers (Guelph). Very much missed cousin of Peter Vooys, David Vooys, Olivia Byam, Claire Demmers, and Rachel Demmers.
Basja lost her eye sight and went on hemodialysis about 5 ½ years ago but she did not lose her vision and counted it a blessing to live for the Lord and witness Christ’s love to anyone around her. She was brilliant and blessed others with her recital of the entire book of James. She was conscientiously involved with all her health care decisions. Basja was a graduate of Brock University (2005) and Tyndale Teacher’s College (2010).
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 22nd from 5 – 8 p.m. at the WAGG FUNERAL HOME, 216 Queen Street in Port Perry (905-985-2171). A celebration of Basja’s life will be held on Friday, December 23rd at the Port Perry Baptist Church, 2210 Hwy 7A in Port Perry at 11 a.m. followed by a reception. Interment Bethesda Cemetery, Tyrone.
