BARROW Verna – November 17, 1935 – June 28, 2017

November 17, 1935 – June 28, 2017
It is with sadness that we announce that Verna passed away at her home in Redwood Meadows on Wednesday, June 28th, 2017 after a lengthy battle with dementia. Verna is survived by her children Dale Barrow, Edward (Becky) Barrow, and Lori Barrow; her grandchildren Jennifer Barrow, Daniel Mikalson, Ryan Mikalson, Justin Barrow and Robert Barrow; her siblings Ivy Nashman (Sam), Joan Meger, Ken Meger and Ina Walker; her wonderful caregivers Lucia Marisol, Betty Mamani and Vivian Farries; and her very special friend Julie Thompson. Verna was predeceased by her husband Kenneth Barrow.
Verna was born in Saskatchewan to Edward and Elsie (nee Martin) Meger and moved to BC as a young child, growing up in the Vernon area.
In her younger adult years Verna lived in Edmonton before moving to Whitehorse YT where she worked at Hougen’s Department Store where she met and fell in love with Ken. After that she moved to Saskatoon where she worked as a hospital receptionist and married Ken. Together they moved to Calgary for a brief stint before returning to Whitehorse. After a while they moved to Calgary where she had a successful career working as a Tupperware Manager at Northern Lights Sales. She loved working with her hands and spent countless hours sewing, crocheting, quilting and making ceramics. She was proud to have donated 100 handmade afghans to a hospice as a special gift to honour what would have been her father’s 100th birthday.
At Verna’s request no funeral services will be held.
