Bill passed over to the spirit world on Sunday, December 11, 2016 at the age of 80 years. He will be lovingly remembered in Regina by his wife of over 35 years, Lizabeth Nicholls, and their two daughters, Alice Nicholls Asikinack (Steve Pady) and Jennifer Nicholls Asikinack. Bill, who taught Indigenous Studies at First Nations University of Canada for over 25 years, will be remembered by many former colleagues and students. He touched the lives of many hundreds of people during his long career in education in Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario. Bill will be missed by his sons in Ontario, Casey (Kathleen) Blackbird, Russell Blackbird (Vicki Jones), Adrian Blackbird, AJ Blackeagle and their families. His extended family includes his surviving sisters, their families and many other relatives on Walpole Island First Nation, Ontario. A private gathering of remembrance is being held in Regina this weekend and a memorial service is also being planned on Walpole Island.
