Ants Jaansalu – 1939 – 2017

Ants passed away peacefully with family by his side on Saturday August 19th, 2017. Ants was born in Tallin Estonia on November 6th, 1939. In 1944 the family escaped from Estonia to Germany where they were taken in by a farming family until moving on to refugee camps. The family emigrated to Canada in 1949, first settling in Rolphton, Ontario where his dad worked for Ontario Hydro. After several moves, the family finally settled in Brockville Ontario. DuPont Canada awarded Ants a scholarship to attend the Hamilton Institute of Technology where he graduated with a degree in Dyeing and Chemistry. Following graduation, Ants moved to Kingston to work for DuPont. He met his wife Carol and they married in September 1965. After working for DuPont for 38 years, first in Kingston then in Montreal, Ants retired to Kingston in 1999, spending more time travelling with his wife, hunting with his son, golfing, and enjoying the company of his grandsons, family, and friends. Predeceased by his parents Julius and Valli Jaansalu, Ants is survived by his beloved wife Carol of nearly 52 years, his children Patricia and Kevin (Mary Lou) of Kingston, grandsons Michael and Matthew, his sisters Tiiu McCormick of Comox BC, Mai Dulmage (Gerry) of Prince George BC, Ann Thompson of Deep River ON, and Tiina Price (Chris) of Cambridge ON, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at James Reid Funeral Home 1900 John Counter Blvd. on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at 2 p.m. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to U.H.K.F. (Cancer Centre of South Eastern Ontario or Cardiac Care Unit) or the charity of choice in Ants’s name would be appreciated.
