Obituary for Antoon “Tom” Ringoir
It is with great sadness that we wish to announce the passing of our husband, father, father-in law, and grandfather; Tom passed peacefully on Sunday, April 2, 2017; surrounded by Elisabeth, his wife of 67 years, and other family members who were tireless in providing loving care and compassion during the difficult challenges Tom faced. Tom was born in Zeist the Netherlands on May 19,1924 and as a young man was asked by the British Army to serve as an interpreter during World War II. Tom was fluent in four languages. Tom also served as a member of the military police in the Canadian Air Force. Tom’s entrepreneurial instincts had him involved in many ventures in various countries. Tom was always researching the next opportunity and determined that Calgary was where he wanted to settle with his family. His arrival to Calgary in 1971 proved to be a most prudent decision. Tom’s early involvement in Contemporary Office Interiors laid a foundation for this successful company to still prosper. Tom and Elisabeth were blessed with five daughters who survive him, Catharina Hessels (Wiggert), Diana Paisley (David), Joanne Kamphuis (Henry), Elisa Iozzo (Jean), and Belinda Kingsmith (Roy). They were also proud grandparents to eleven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Tom is also survived by one sister and three nephews still residing in Holland. Tom was an avid reader and a wealth of knowledge on many subjects. Family and friends will miss his wise insights on history as well as current global events. The family wishes to thank the nursing staff at Rockyview Unit 83 as well as the caring and thoughtful staff at Southwood Intercare. Tom requested a private family graveside service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Grace Presbyterian Church whose members consistently demonstrated true Christian values by ongoing acts of kindness.
