Anita Rose Madigan – 1935-2017

Anita Rose Madigan
1935-2017
It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our
beloved mother, Anita Rose Madigan. She passed away
peacefully with family by her side after a brief stay at the Dr.
Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton.
Mom adored her four children, Philip (Chloe) of Mount
Warrigal, Australia, Tess of Fredericton, Sue (Ralph) of Sheffield, NB
and Maureen (Darryl) of Annapolis Valley, NS as well as her five
granddaughters, Ella, Brook, Rachel, Evelyn and Lauren.
Anita was born in Montreal on August 18, 1935. She married
Gerry in 1960 before moving to the Saint John area with their young
family in 1970. Mom and Dad enjoyed 56 years together before
Dad’s passing earlier this year.
Mom was an incredible wife and mother. She was a strong
advocate for our education, from running a home kindergarten to
putting her strong math skills to use through our high school years.
She was well ahead of her time with her passion for health
and nutrition, sharing her homecooked meals and low sugar/wholewheat
baking with family and friends. As we moved out of home, she
sent us many care packages including apple pies to
Australia!
Mom’s Montreal-style driving was legendary and
began with her first car purchase as a young woman in the 1950s. She
embarked on road trips with her girlfriends including Miami and New
York City. The driving trips continued with her family and we have
fond memories of our vacations to Florida. In laid back New Brunswick,
Mom developed a reputation for her speed, passing on the inside and
talking her way out of tickets. J
Mom enjoyed her work outside the home, particularly her
afternoons with “the boys” at Union Carbide where she worked
for over a decade. Into her 80th year she was still
bookkeeper extraordinaire for her daughter’s business, Aura
Whole Foods in Fredericton.
After 35 great years of living in Kennebecasis Park, Mom and
Dad moved to Fredericton to be closer to their children. Mom
kept busy in her later years with many activities including daily
walks, sudokus and crossword puzzles.
Mom’s laughter and love will be remembered by many.
We shall miss her dearly but we take comfort in knowing she lives on
through her family.
A gathering will be held to celebrate Mom’s life on
Friday, August 18 from 5:00-8:00pm. All are welcome to drop in to
share a story and a hug, McAdam’s Funeral Home, 160 York St.,
Fredericton.
For those who wish, donations can be made to a charity close
to your heart.
