October 21st- 2017
It is with sad and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our dear Dad, Nonno and Bisnonno, Angelo Mason, on October 21st, 2017.
Angelo was born in Trail, BC to Silvia (Filipuzzi) and Angelo Mason. At the young age of 9, he went to Italy with his Dad who was ill at the time and who passed away shortly thereafter. Angelo grew up in Italy with his Mom and sister, Ava, and had many funny stories to share of the times he got into trouble with his good friend, Mario. After spending 18 months in the Italian Army and various jobs, he married Delfina Colonello on her birthday, November 26th, 1949 and they enjoyed 63 years of marriage together. A few months after they were married, Angelo left Italy to come back to Canada. His wife, Delfina followed in October of 1950.
Angelo and Delfina made their home in Fruitvale in 1952 where they raised four children. Angelo worked many years at Atco Lumber and was proud to have an article in their anniversary book.
Angelo was competitive at everything he did. Whether it was Morra, Bocci, Lawn Darts, Crib or Bowling, he always played to win….even if he had to trick his competitor, and he passed this competitive nature on to his children. Always quick with a joke and the life of the party, nieces and nephews loved to visit and share some laughs. Angelo spent many hours enjoying music and dancing to waltzes and polkas. Very light on his feet, he was popular with the ladies.
Springs and summers were spent growing vegetables, many from seeds, and autumn was the time for wine making. Angelo enjoyed sharing a good glass of wine with friends and family alike.
Angelo lived his last two years at Mountain Side Village in Fruitvale. He loved every minute of his time there and loved all the new friends he made. You could usually find him sitting in a front row seat if there was going to be music playing, especially Zio Remigio’s band, and even had dances using his walker. Angelo’s family wants to thank John, Sue and all the staff for the wonderful care they gave our Dad. He was treated like a King. We also want to thank the residents who embraced him and looked out for him. He loved that he had all those new friends.
Angelo was predeceased by his parents, his wife Delfina, his brother John Mason and his sister Irene Dolfo. Left to cherish his memory are his three sons; Carlo (Marilyn), Dave (Brenda), Bernie (Sherri), daughter; Sylvia (Rick Dominici), grandchildren; Marlo (Mike Caputo), Michele (Kevin Ihas), Mike, Jeff (Julia), Jarret (Megan), Matthew and Nathan, nine great-grandchildren; Jesse, Josh, Emmie, Nate, Mya, Gino, Gemma, Taylor and Hannah (and a great-grandson on the way), as well as his sister Ava Cominotto, sisters-in-law; Nives Bozzer and Cathy Colonello, brother-in-law Tino Colonello, and many nieces and nephews.
A family graveside service has taken place at the Fruitvale Memorial Cemetery where he was reunited and laid to rest with Delfina. A Catholic Mass has been ordered for Angelo and Delfina to take place Saturday, November 25th at 7:00 pm at the Holy Trinity Church.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services™ for their assistance with the arrangements, to Father Frances for the service, and to all our friends and family for all of their love and support during this difficult time.
As an expression of sympathy, donations in Angelo’s name may be made to the MS Society of Canada at 4720 Kingsway, Suite 1103, Metrotower II, Burnaby, BC, V5H 4N2 or online at www.mssociety.ca
