André Réjean Barteau passed away on Saturday, April 23,
2017 at his home in Chocolate Cove NB. He was born in Saint John on
April 21, 1972, and he was the son of Jerome R. Andrews and Journeay
Barteau, both of Deer Island. With both parents being visual artists,
André began his love of painting and drawing at an early age.
He continued his art journey after high school in the early 90’s at
the Milwaukee Institute of Art Design and the University of Windsor in
Ontario.
André continued to exhibit in various venues, showing his works
of acrylics, transparent inks and found objects, which created
mystical illusions of unique surrealistic representation for the
observer. Currently he was curator and owner of his gallery, The
Observatory, in Chocolate Cove, Deer Island.
André was also a romantic poet. He loved to write poetry on
themes of love and life experiences, some were published in his book,
Actors and Audiences, in 1994.
He had many other interests which included ecology, philosophy,
mythology, British Comedy, music, penguins, frogs and elves. He loved
cats, especially his current cat and companion, Guy Noir. André
will be deeply missed by his father, Jerome R. Andrews, mother,
Journeay Barteau, stepmother, Jennie R. Andrews, several aunts, uncles
and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Arthur and Lorene
Barteau and Leo and Freda Andrews.
A celebration of André’s life will be held at the Fairhaven
Community Cemetery in Calder’s Head, Deer Island on Tuesday, May 2,
2017 at 2:00 pm. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, or
