Allan Robertson

Allan Robertson June 11, 1926 – March 11, 2017

Allan Robertson passed away on March 11, 2017. He is survived by Evelyn, wife of 69 years, son Don (Marilyn), daughter Heather (Dave), grand-children Jason (Pam), Jennifer (Michael), Chris and Stephen, and great-granddaughters Xen and Ariella.
Dad grew up with four siblings in Watrous, Sask. Dad would tell stories of playing hockey with “road apples” (frozen horse dung) for pucks. During his childhood, while suffering from acute appendicitis, Dad barely made it to hospital after being ”ambulanced” in a hearse with no shocks on a gravel road.
In W.W.II Dad joined the Navy when the recruiter turned a blind eye to the fact that he was only 16. After the war he returned to Winnipeg where he apprenticed as a Carman for the C.N.R.
Dad met Mom on the tennis court when he and a buddy asked Mom and her friend to play doubles. They hit it off and never looked back. Dad and Mom would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this April 3rd.
Dad was a wonderful father, grandpa and great-grandpa – very much the “oak tree”, possessing a quiet confidence. He was always there to help, whether you had car trouble, were installing a picture window (that was a bit of excitement!), or laying flooring. Dad loved his gardens and had a large vegetable garden out back and beautiful roses out front that drew everyone’s attention (as well as deer).
Over the years Mom and Dad had many homes and vacation places, all of which Dad “handymanned” into shape. Some of their best times were spent at Falcon Beach and Paradise Village. They had a large number of bird feeders and Dad was always at war with the squirrels. Their final home was Dakota House where they had many good friends and wonderful staff.
Dad and Mom spent their early retirement years travelling to Europe and Cuba and wintering in California, Arizona, and Vancouver Island. We would have Xmas complete with tree at Thanksgiving, and then off they’d go!
Dad was a kind and gentle man, who, although gravely ill, fought to remain in this world to care for Mom, who was also ill. Blessedly, his pain and struggle has ceased.
Dad has requested a family gathering only. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice
