Alice Gertrude Porter – 2017

Alice Gertrude Porter, 99 of Port Williams passed away peacefully on March 2, 2017. She was born Alice Gertrude Nickerson on September 28, 1917 to parents Wilfred and Isabel (Baker) Nickerson in Watertown, Massachusetts.
Alice married Garnet A. Porter on March 13, 1957. They worked side by side, operating the farm in Blomidon for many years. After this, they resided in Port Williams growing crops and maintaining their property on a smaller scale. Alice enjoyed crocheting, sewing, doing puzzles and quilting, she was well known for her quilts and cooking. In 2010, due to failing health, Alice moved to a care residence in her community of Port Williams where she received excellent personalized care from caregiver Paula Morine. Alice’s family physician, Dr. Rebecca Clarke, also provided exemplary, compassionate care over several years. Alice developed a special love for the resident dog, Emma, who came to her on a regular basis looking for treats.
Alice was predeceased by her husband Garnet; her parents and an infant sister, Mildred.
A Funeral Service will be held on March 11, 2017 at 1:00 pm in the Wolfville Chapel, with Rev. Donald Rafuse officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Pereau Baptist Church or charity of one’s choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Lindsay Annapolis Valley Funeral Home & Chapels, Wolfville Chapel, 568 Main Street Wolfville (902-542-4656).
