1921-2017
Ford – The death
occurred at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside, on Monday,
February 20, 2017, of Alfred S. Ford, aged 95 years. Veteran of World
War II. Born in Arlington, Lot 14, he was the son of the late Seaman
and Helen (Yeo) Ford. In his late teens, Alfred went to Moncton where
he worked at T. Eaton Company Ltd., however, before long he joined the
Army and was soon posted overseas where he served in England, Holland,
Belgium, France and Germany. When the war ended in May, 1945, he
joined the Occupation Force and was stationed at Wilhelmshaven in
Northwest Germany. Before returning to Canada, he married Francine
Burrick of Destlebergen Ghent, Belgium. He and Francine lived in
Charlottetown where he attended Prince of Wales College. Later he
taught school in Arlington, for one year, before moving to Halifax
where he greatly enjoyed his work for 35 years with Canada Customs.
Several years ago he moved to Summerside and enjoyed living there in
his apartment. For the last three years he was a resident of ParkHill
Place where he enjoyed the friendship of manager and staff. Alfred is
survived by his daughter Patricia Ann; granddaughters Kathryn and
Shannon of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; his brother Norman of Arlington;
and by several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and
parents, he was predeceased by his four sisters Annie (Hinson)
Williams, Helen (Arthur) MacKinnon, Jennie (Oswald) Yeo and Beulah
(Laurence) MacDonald. As per Alfred’s request, his
remains have been donated to Medical Science at Dalhousie
University. A memorial service will be held at some future
date in Halifax. Completion of funeral arrangements
entrusted to Moase Funeral Home, Summerside. Memorial
donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
