Alfred Ponting – 2017

2017
Obituary Overview
Alfred Ponting
Born is St. Lambert Quebec, Alfred was part of a large family. He always took great pride in his family and fondly reminisced about his childhood in Montreal South. Just old enough, Alfred joined the Army to fight in WWII, determined to join his brothers. He returned home to become an electrician and instrumentation mechanic, working at Red Path Sugar in Montreal, the mill in Marathon and finally retiring from Ontario Hydro in Thunder Bay. Alfred had a full life. He was actively involved in the Masonic Lodge, the Anglican Church (lately at St. Stephen’s) and the Rovers. He, and his wife Ellen, adored their family, and Alfred was actively involved in their lives. He did everything from baking and decorating birthday/wedding cakes to volunteering on class trips to building custom furniture.
Alfred was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Miriam (Hinds), his beloved wife Ellen (Harding), his brothers Cliff (Gillette), Fred (Winnie), Bob (Estelle), George (Olive), Irene (Hill), Pat (Ray) and Laura (John). Leaving to mourn Alfred are his daughters Diane (Ed) Swayze and Linda Ponting (Norm), his grandchildren Sarah (Evan) Smart and John Swayze (Erin), his sisters Marina (Richard) Francis and Lise Ingram, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed.
Services will be held at St. Stephen the Martyr Anglican Church on Friday, November 10, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Ed Swayze officiating. Interment will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Stephen the Martyr Anglican Church or a charity of your choosing.
