McMURRAY, Alexander
Passed away peacefully at Fosterbrooke Long Term Care in Newcastle on Wednesday, November 1, 2017. Beloved husband to Eileen for 54 years. Cherished father to Sharon Meredith (David), and Tracy McMurray. Adoring Papa to Mya and Keira. Alex was born in England to John and Jean McMurray (both now deceased), brother to Ian, Ralph and predeceased by Ronald. Alex was conscripted to the British Armed Forces at the age of 18 and spent almost two years deployed in Cyprus. After emigrating from England in 1965, Alex joined the Ajax Police Department and continued his service after regionalization in 1974 with the Durham Regional Police Service. Alex completed his exemplary 33 year policing career as Deputy Chief in 1996. He will be deeply missed by his devoted family and friends. The family will receive friends at the McEachnie Funeral Home (28 Old Kingston Road, Ajax), 905-428-8488 on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9pm. A memorial service will take place in the chapel on Wednesday November 8 at 1pm. Memorial donations may be made through the Durham Regional Police Service in support of the Durham Regional Police Children’s Games.
